A Goon night out!
Last night was the opening night of The Goon Show LIVE! at Yulefest in the Blue Mountains. What a cracker it was too; the audiences braved an extremely windy night in the region, with temperatures hovering around zero, making it along to The Clarendon Guesthouse in Katoomba for the kind of warmth that only the Best British Comedy can deliver.
This dinner and show features three of Spike Milligan’s original episodes; The Mighty Wurlitzer, The Greenslade Story and A Christmas Carol.
Audiences ate, drank and laughed… not necessarily in that order, as the stars of the show Robin (Spike) Queree, Simon (Harry) Lenthen and John (Sellers) Stretton breathed a new life into the loveable (and not quite so loveable) characters who generations of fans have come to know.
The proof of the (batter) pudding is in the eating… or in last night’s case, how long afterwards the audience stayed around to meet the cast. It was an hour or so of being mobbed for the cast to finally call it a night, all of them receiving wonderful compliments from the people who came along. Some die-hard fans of the original expressed their delight by the recreation of the original broadcasts as they remember them.
All in all a terrific night, a great way to start our Yulefest season. There are only 5 shows left and some of those nights are getting very full indeed; read about the show here, or simply book right now.
